The Turkish secretary-general of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, began a tour of African countries on Monday to strengthen cooperation among the African members of the 56-nation organization.
İhsanoğlu will be visiting Benin, Togo, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Senegal and Niger before wrapping up his visit on June 7. The visits take place at the invitation of the seven countries.

The Arab League decided on Saturday to seek full U.N. membership for a Palestinian state in the besiged Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, with occupied East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Arab League's peace process committee, meeting in Doha, said it would request membership for the state of Palestine at the U.N. General Assembly's meeting in New York in September.

Syrian government troops backed by tanks attacked two central towns Sunday in an attempt to stop round-the-clock protests there against President Bashar Assad’s regime, killing at least two people and wounding several others, activists and a rights group said.
Security forces in several other parts of the country fired on crowds holding overnight demonstrations, causing casualties, activists said.

Islamic teachers and imams in America have begun signing an open letter declaring that there is no clash between their religious faith and the theory of biological evolution.
The Imam Letter, launched this week in the US, is the latest challenge to Creationists of the three Abrahamic religions who reject evolution in favour of Creationism.
Creationism is the religious belief that all species were created in exactly the form they appear today.

Thousands of protesters returned to downtown Cairo’s Tahrir Square Friday for what they called a “second revolution,” calling for Egypt’s military rulers to speed up the pace of democratic reforms in a country that is still charting its political future.
Protesters carried banners reading the “Egyptian revolution is not over” and chanted the slogan.

A ceremony will be held at the Sarp land border gate on the very same day with the participation of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili and Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri.
