Hundreds of Syrians seeking asylum in Jordan, are passing through to the neighboring country through illegal crossing points.

Facing rough weather and harsh living conditions, the influx of refugees into Jordanian territories is sharply increasing as Syrians flee deadly violence across the country.

Syrians are passing through more than 45 crossing points which stretch across the Syria-Jordan border, with a number of them coming through the illegal crossings.

The influx has put extra pressure on Jordan’s army, while the number of injured refugees entering the country amount to 2,700.

About 94,000 refugees now live in tents and caravans in Jordan’s northern Zaatari camp with about 1,500 newcomers arriving every night, with most of the camp’s residents coming from Daraa, in southern Syria.

Jordan says it hosts more than 368,000 of the 787,000 Syrians displaced in the region.

Zaatari has had explosive growth, straining the resources of the host nation as well as the U.N. and its World Food Program, which distributes 18 tons of bread every day as well as other foods.

More than 280,000 Syrians have fled the conflict in their country across the borders to Lebanon, the United Nations says.

Most of them live in the north and east of Lebanon, in makeshift shelters, rented houses or in homes of extended family members.

According to the United Nations children’s fund, UNICEF, some 50 percent of the 700,000 Syrians who have been fled to neighboring countries are children. A quarter of the refugees are children under four.
