An exhibition of Iranian cultural works has kicked off in China to introduce various aspects of ancient Persian culture and the nation’s civilization.

The cultural exhibition began its activity during a ceremony held at Shanghai’s Changning Library on December 19, 2013.

A number of photographs of Iran's tourism attractions titled ‘Today’s Iran’, Iranian handicrafts, art books and food has been displayed at the event.

Organized by the Iranian cultural attaché’s office in China, the exhibition is slated to run until December 26.

Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati in a meeting with Chinese Deputy Culture Minister Dong Wi had earlier called for expansion of cultural ties between Beijing and Tehran.

Jannati in his meeting, held in June 2013, referred to Iran-China historical relations, in particular, the 1983 Memorandum of Understanding that was signed between the two countries.

Both countries have had some cultural exchanges in different areas during recent years.
