«Mecca in silver» exhibition to be held in Moscow

The original stamps were issued at different times by 24 Islamic countries

In 2013 in Russia with the use of the high-end technology the Moscow Mint of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation issued a collection of 40 replica stamps made of 999 fine silver and dedicated it to the Holy City of Mecca.

On 25 April, 2013, in the Museum of Islamic culture hosted the opening of the exhibition «Mecca in silver: the symbolism of the Hajj in silver stamps of the Moscow mint». These silver replicas duplicate the famous original stamps and have already become the artifacts of the great historic significance.

On 24 March, 2014 at the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky will be held the exhibition "Mecca in silver symbolism of the Hajj in silver stamp of the Moscow Mint", the press service of Spiritual Administration of Russian Muslims reports.                                                          

The original stamps were issued at different times by 24 Islamic countries: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Comoros, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Syria, Tunisia, UAE and Yemen.                                             

Before making this commemorative collection of silver the stamp raised patterns were hand-moulded at the Moscow Mint, thus, the stamps gained a three-dimensional shape. All stamps are made in actual size. The collection-making process took three years and involved a great number of scientists, experts, technologists, engineers, designers, sculptors and artists.
