Russia has more than 783,000 registered HIV patients. More than 62,000 cases of infection were detected during the 11 months of 2013, acting head of the Federal Service for Protection of Consumer Rights and Human Wellbeing Anna Popova told the media on Tuesday.

“Twenty-four million,185,000 Russian citizens had been examined by December 1, which was 100 percent of the planned annual quantity,” Popova said, adding that 44,448 people had undergone regular medical checks, which was 89.2 percent of all those registered in AIDS prevention centres.

But the incidence of HIV was growing, she added, noting “The service cannot rest for the risks are still present."
