VI Congress of North Caucasus Muslims held in Makhachkala

VI Congress of Muslim Communities of the North Caucasus themed 'The Role of Religious Associations in Countering the Challenges and Threats of Modernity - experience of the republics of the North Caucasus' was held in Makhachkala House of Friendship on 22 November.
 
The Congress was attended by Mufti of Dagestan, Sheikh Ahmad Afandi, Head of the Dagestani Government Administration Vladimir Ivanov, Deputy Chairman of Dagestani Government Ramadan Jafarov, Chairman of the Coordinating Center of Muslims of the North Caucasus (CCMNC) Ismail Berdyev, the Muftis of the North Caucasus Republics as well as representatives of state authorities, public and religious figures.
 
Vladimir Ivanov addressed the congress participants on behalf of the Head of Dagestan. The meeting was moderated by Ramazan Jafarov.
 
The Mufti of Dagestan in his speech spoke about the importance of the joint work of government officials and religious leaders aimed at moral education, prevention of the ideas of extremism.
 
“If representatives of the authorities and law enforcement agencies use the potential of imams in spiritual, moral and preventive work, we will be able to avoid many problems. The problem of extremism cannot be solved only by force, its solution lies in the dialogue between the authorities, the clergy and social institutions with society, the timely education of young people in matters of religion,” Ahmad Afandi said.
 
Chairman of CCMNC, Ismail Berdyev, in his speech welcomed the participants of the congress, and also spoke about the unity of the Muslim republics of the North Caucasus in the work on the prevention of extremist ideology.
 
Other speakers included Mufti of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania Hadzhimurat Gatsalov, adviser to the Head of the Republic of Ingushetia on religious issues Magomet Dzaurov, professor from Yemen, specialist in Sharia jurisprudence Khalid Ahmad Ali al-Tayyar and others.
 
At the meeting, the participants shared their experience in solving problems facing modern society, discuss issues related to inter-confessional life, strengthening peace and harmony in the North Caucasus, spiritual and moral education of the younger generation, counteraction against the ideology of extremism and terrorism.
