A unique translation of “Sahih al-Bukhari” to be presented in Dagestan

Makhachkala, March 17, 2021

The presentation of the translation of Sahih al-Bukhari into Russian language is to take place in Makhachkala on March 27, Islam.ru website reports.

For the Russian Federation it is the first time translation of a collection of hadiths in the version of ad-Dagestani, renowned Muslim scholar.

The meeting will be attended by the Mufti of Dagestan, Sheikh Ahmad Afandi, the Mufti of Tatarstan, Kamil Khazrat Samigullin and members of the author’s team of the publication - Sharia specialists of the muftiyats of the two republics.

Sahih al-Bukhari is the second most important book for Muslims after the Koran and one of the main Sunni collections of hadiths. At the same time, Muslim scholars at different times abbreviated “Sahih al-Bukhari”, based on the needs of a particular era.

One of the most successful abbreviated versions is “Zubdat”, compiled in the 19th century by the Muslim scholar of Dagestan origin, Umar Ziyauddin ad-Dagestani. Until now, this work has not been available to the Russian-speaking reader, but the spread of pseudo-Islamic traditions and ideas in the Russian Muslim community necessitates the revival of Russian theological thought. The translation of the collection of hadiths “Sahih al-Bukhari” in the version of “Zubdat” into Russian made the meanings of authentic hadiths and true Sunni traditions accessible to the Muslims of Russia.

It is noteworthy that the publication of the book was the result of joint efforts of the Sharia specialists of the Muslim Religious Administrations of Tatarstan and Dagestan: it was translated and published in Tatarstan, and reviewed in Dagestan. Thus, the modern fundamental theological work has become the manifestation of friendship of the Muslim peoples of Russia.

This is not the first experience of cooperation between the Tatarstan and the Muftiate and Dagestan Muftiyats in the field of translations of classical Islamic texts. Earlier in Kazan was released a semantic translation of the Koran into Russian “Kalyam Sharif. Translation of meanings”, which was prepared with the participation of Sharia specialists from Dagestan. The publication won recognition among Russian theologians.
