Tatarstan Muftiate names the dates of the main Muslim holidays in the New Year

Muslim Religious Administration of the Republic of Tatarstan announced the dates of main Muslim holidays in 2020. Thus the coming 2020 falls on the middle and end of 1441 and the beginning and middle of 1442 according to the Hijra. The Hijra calendar has 12 months and begins with the month of Muharram.

According to preliminary data, the Holy month of Ramadan begins on April 24 in 2020 and will last 30 days. And Uraza Bairam holiday falls out on May 24. Another Muslim holiday, Eid al-Adha, falls out on July 31.

“When determining the beginning and end of the months of the Muslim calendar, the Council of Ulama (Muslim scholars) of the Tatarstan Muftiate relies on local geographic features and astronomical data,” the press office of Muslim Religious Administration of the Republic of Tatarstan reports.
