Record number of Crimean Muslims is expected to perform Hajj in holy Mecca this year.
According to State Duma Deputy Ruslan Balbek, some 600 Muslim pilgims from the Crimea will be able to perform the fifth pillar of Islam - the Hajj.
This amount is the highest number of pilgrims going for Hajj from the republic in a year. The Member of Russian Parliament stressed that it was possible to send a large group of Crimean Muslims to the pilgrimage due to the affordable prices for direct flights that became available on the peninsula after the reunification of the Crimea with Russia.
"This was possible due to the pricing policy and the possibility of a direct flight, and considering many other advantages and negotiations," Balbek said.
