St. Petersburg, August 25, 2022
A photo exhibition “Lead us on the straight path” dedicated to the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bolgaria has opened in the Marble Hall of the Russian Museum of Ethnography. The project covers two periods of the modern history of Islam in Tatarstan: the documentary photographers focus on the epoch of the revival of spirituality in the times of the late USSR and the life of the Ummah today.
Mufti of St. Petersburg and the North-West region of Russia Ravil Hazrat Pancheev took part in the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition.
The society turned back to religion with the advent of Perestroika and the weakening of pressure in 80-90s of the XX century. These tectonic social changes were captured by talented photographers Ramil Gali and Farit Gubaev.
The exhibition shows pictures on the life of Muslims in modern Tatarstan, the development of Islam and the relationship between representatives of various confessions of the republic. The project is implemented within the framework of the Year of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia declared by President Vladimir Putin and the celebration of the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bolgaria.
The exhibition will run until September 16, 2022.
