Museum of Islamic Culture to open in Moscow

Moscow, March 15, 2021

The Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia (SAMR) plans to open a museum of Islamic culture at the interfaith center in Moscow when it will be built. The chairman of the organization, Mufti Albir Krganov, said this at the panel discussion “Creativity as a way to unite the people: the unifying role of art” in the Public Board of the Russian Federation on Monday this week.

“In such a great state as Russia we still do not have a permanent museum of Islamic culture... If there will be a positive decision to build an interreligious center in Kommunarka district, we are going to build such a museum there”, he said.

On September 24, 2020, at a conference in TASS, Krganov announced his intention to build an interfaith center in Kommunarka. The press office of the SAMR told TASS that this initiative had been agreed with the Moscow mayor's office, but for already 8 years they could not obtain a building permit.
