Moscow Muslims urged not to visit mosques due to coronavirus

Moscow, March 18, 2020

The head of the Spiritual Assembly of Muslims of Russia, mufti of Moscow, Albir-hazrat Krganov supported measures taken by the capital’s authority to ban meetings of more than 50 people. The mufti called Muslims of the region not to come to mosques for congregational prayers.

“We want to address to believers with the request to perform prayers at home so as not to put at risk themselves and others”, the mufti told Interfax.

Krganov reminded the believers that there are reliable hadiths where it is said about the possibility of home prayers in some extraordinary cases. “The protection of human health and life is more important”, he emphasized.

“This is a temporary measure. We really hope that the problem of the spread of coronavirus will be solved through joint efforts, but today we have to follow the restrictions with understanding”, the mufti believes.
