The scientific and practical conference “Religion in the modern world: culture and practice” was held in Saransk on November 10. The event was organized by the Regional Muslim Religious Administration of the Republic of Mordovia in order to facilitate the consolidation of the efforts of society and the state authorities in the development of dialogue between different peoples and faiths.

The forum was attended by the Mufti of the Republic of Mordovia Zyaki-Hazrat Aizatullin, senior adviser to the Head of the Republic of Mordovia Shamil Davydov, head of the department for interaction with religious organizations and national public associations of the Office for Internal Policy of the Administration of the Head of the Republic of Mordovia Lev Aleksandrov, chairman of the Muslim Religious Administration of the Ulyanovsk Region Ildar-haji Safiullin, First Deputy Mufti of the Republic of Dagestan Abdulla Adzhimollaev, Chairman of the Diocesan Missionary Department, Priest Vasily Matveev, Chairman of the Local Jewish National and Cultural Autonomy of Saransk, Assistant to the Chief Rabbi of the Russian Federation Alexander Drobin, President of the Saransk Society for Krishna Consciousness Mikhail Maslov, and others.

The conference participants agreed that the unification of efforts of state authorities and religious organizations is the main guarantee of harmonization of interethnic and interreligious relations in the country.

By the end of the conference the participants offered the following recommendations:

• to develop mechanisms that facilitate the interaction of public and state institutions in strengthening Russian civil unity, harmonization of interethnic and interreligious relations;

• to facilitate the exchange of experience and spread of innovative technologies in the implementation of programs and projects aimed at building a constructive inter-religious dialogue and preserving ethno cultural diversity;

• to provide support to social projects aimed at spiritual, moral and patriotic education of youth.

Within the framework of the conference the Regional Muslim Religious Administration of the Republic of Mordovia and the Muftiate of the Republic of Dagestan signed a cooperation agreement. It was signed by the Mufti of the Republic of Mordovia Zyaki-Hazrat Aizatullin and the First Deputy Mufti of the Republic of Dagestan Abdulla Adzhimollayev.
