Kazan discusses the development of Islamic culture in cities

An international summer school “Islam in Russia V: Muslim subjectivity in the city” opened in Kazan, at the National Library. The event is to consider the issues of the development of Islamic culture in cities, Tatar-inform reports.

The first summer school was held in Kazan in 2015, and later in St. Petersburg, Derbent, Penza. “The main goal of the organizers is to educate young people who study Islamic culture and those who are interested in the past and present of Muslim peoples”, - said the deputy director of the Institute of History named after A. Sh. Mardzhani of the Academy of Science of the Republic of Tatarstan, Alfrid Bustanov.

The summer school will train about 20 people. They are to discuss Muslim culture in cities, the influence of religion on the city, and how religion changes under the influence of the city, Bustanov said.

An exhibition was also opened in the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan within the framework of the programme “The Global World of Tatar Books”.
