Karachay-Cherkess Republic celebrated the third day of the holy festival of Eid al-Adha (Kurban-Bayram) with competitions on knowledge of the basis of the religion, a contest of readers of the Quran and sport events, one of the organizers of the initiative Nauruz Kubanov told TASS on Tuesday.

"We had Kurban Bayram festival in the village of Storozhevoy in Zelenchuksky district and more than 1000 people from all over Karachay-Cherkessia took part in it", Kubanov said.

The contest for the most beautiful recitation of verses from the Quran was held in three age groups: up to 8 years old, 9-13 and 13-18 years old. About 40 children took part in the competition. The jury selected three best readers who received prizes and gifts.

After the contest the organizers held a quiz on the basis of the religion and the biography of the prophets among adults and children. All the participants who answered the questions received prizes.
