Last Friday Mufti of Dagestan Republic, Sheikh Ahmad Afandi met with the Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Dagestan Andrey Polyakov, and his assistant for organizing work with believers, Shamil Karagishiev.

During the conversation the parties discussed number of important issues related to the implementation of human rights in detention centers and the upbringing of convicts in the spirit of moral values, as well as strengthening and enhancing the religious knowledge of employees of the penal system of Dagestan.

The Head of the republic's penitentiary department, Andrey Polyakov, spoke about the work carried out in the penitentiary institutions of the region in providing the rights of convicts to freedom of conscience and religion, on their moral and spiritual education, as well as the prevention and countering the ideology of extremism and terrorism. Andrey Polyakov highly appreciated the work of the Education Department of the Muftiyat for interaction with correctional institutions of the region.

In turn, Sheikh Ahmad Afandi thanked Andrey Polyakov for his special approach to the issues of spiritual education of both the prisoners and employees of the penal system.

The participants of the meeting agreed that in addition to conducting lessons and lectures in the institutions of the penal system, it is necessary to intensify the work on organizing various spiritual and educational events both among the convicts and the personnel.

At the end of the meeting, the Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service expressed his sincere gratitude to the Honorable Mufti of the republic for long-term cooperation and noted the importance of further interaction.
