The head of the Chelyabinsk city administration has replied to all public organizations who spoke out against the construction of a mosque in the city.

Members of NGO “Great Russia", "National Union of Russia", "National Democratic Party" and ethno-political association "Russians" appealed to the chief of Chelyabinsk administration, Sergey Davydov to suspend "any construction works "on the Heroes Tankograd street between Lenina Prospect and 1th Pyatiletka street.

Chelyabinsk nationalists believe that the construction of the mosque is not possible without consultation with relevant non-governmental organizations and hearing the views of citizens and results of public opinion polls.

Sergei Davydov said today that the City Administration does not build temples, but only deals with allocation of municipal land for the construction of facilities. Moreover, the mosque construction project was approved in 2009, correspondent of New Region news agency reports.

Sergei Davydov said that the arguments of social groups are insufficient. He also noted that Chelyabinsk Muslim community protects the city from the extremists who don’t "emerge" from mosques, but "grow" in private homes and basements.
