Seljuk mosques display Turkish-Islamic design elements

Mosques in central Turkey with unusual wooden features were built by the Seljuks for the first time in history and have been a significant representation of Turkish-Islamic architecture for centuries.

When the Seljuks arrived in Anatolia in the 13th century, they constructed mosques with wooden columns and roofs like those of Uzbekistan's Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva, according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) official website.

Turkey's UNESCO heritage sites inadequate: Official

Turkey is considered the cradle of civilization but has fewer UNESCO World Heritage sites than other nations.

In an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency, Professor Ocal Oguz, president of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, said Turkey has 18 sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Turkish first lady opens cultural center in Kyrgyzstan

Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan inaugurated a cultural center on Sunday, dedicated to late Kyrgyz writer Chinghiz Aitmatov.

Speaking at the opening event in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek, Erdogan said that the venue which was renovated and restored by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), is seen as an education center that will strengthen Kyrgyzstan-Turkey friendship.

The cultural center is part of the Kyrgyz National Library.

King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture features in TIME’s World's Greatest Places list

King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia figures in the TIME magazine’s list of the World's Greatest Places to visit during 2018. The list of the 100 must-visit places this year is to be revealed in the September issue of the magazine.

The magazine compiled the list of 100 places, which it says are the world's greatest locations to visit this year, and are “breaking new ground, leading industry trends and offering visitors an extraordinary experience.”

Trans-Iranian Railroad in Line for Global Status

The dossier of the trans-Iranian railroad, prepared in late 2017, has been submitted to UNESCO for inscription in the list of World Heritage Sites. The file will be reviewed and revised by the end of the current summer to fix the shortcomings that UNESCO experts will possibly point out, Vahid Aliqardashi, head of infrastructure engineering management at the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Company said.

"Partnership in Haj Operations" exhibition opened in Madinah

Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman, chairman of the Madinah Haj Committee, opened the Bunyan 7 Exhibition entitled "Partnership in Haj Operations" south of the Prophet's Mosque on Wednesday, to highlight the quality services available for pilgrims this year.

President of Taiba University Adnan Al-Mazroue and other top officials were also present. The exhibition includes more than 40 government, private, charity and voluntary agencies.

North America´s first Islamic art museum to open in Toronto

A shiny new Islamic art museum and cultural center will open in Toronto next week, becoming the first of its kind in North America.

Bankrolled by Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of Ismaili Muslims, the facility will feature more than 1,000 artifacts -- including rare scriptures of the Quran from the 7th and 8th centuries.
