Ottoman era collection in a Russian library

The Russian State Library’s Center of Eastern Literature has the largest collection of Ottoman era books and other printed materials in Turkish language in Europe and Russia, totalling around 35,000, according to a library official.

The center's Director, Marina Melanyina said that the pearl of the collection is an assembly of first-prints of Turkish books.

Russian parliament rejects cohabitation bill

State Duma representatives have rejected a proposal to legally equate five years of cohabitation with registered marriage, citing technical problems with the draft legislation as the reason for the rejection.

“The proposed characteristics of the de-facto marriage relations are vague and it is not clear from the text of the draft who should decide on the moment when such relations start and how they will do it,” reads an assessment of the bill, released by a lower house committee.

Vladimir Putin’s re-election as Russian president will ensure the continuation of an economic policy that has seen a major spike in foreign investment, says head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

Turkey to host Syria summit with Russia and Iran on April 4

The presidents of Turkey, Russia and Iran will meet for a three-way summit on Syria in Istanbul on April 4, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

The meeting will be hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and will be the second such tripartite summit following one in November in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.

The summit will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani as the three leaders seek to salvage their efforts to end the conflict.

Russia, Iran agree to boycott US dollar in bilateral trade

Russia and Iran have agreed to use their own national currencies in bilateral trade transactions rather than the U.S. dollar.

Iran’s IRNA news agency reported that the plans were announced in a meeting on Tuesday in Tehran by Iranian business magnate and head of the Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce, Asadollah Asgaroladi.

The prices of products affected by the Russia's retaliatory sanctions grew almost three times faster than those of other staples, the Ministry of Economic Development said on Friday.
