Dua– an Arabic word written here in English letters. Three small letters that make up a word and a subject that is large and breathtaking. This word ‘dua’ could be roughly translated to mean supplication or invocation. Although neither word adequately define dua. Supplication, which means communicating with a deity, comes closer than invocation which is known to sometimes imply summoning spirits or devils.

It is important to read the note at the end of this article to learn the way to offer 3 and 4 Raka’a Salah.
There are certain acts of Salah that are fardh, sunnah etc but these are not covered in this compilation. Other books of fiqh like "Behishti Zewar" should be consulted in order to learn those along with a myriad of rulings regarding Salah and Taharah.

Before I genuinely began to cultivate and nurture my relationship with God, I regarded the five daily prayers that Islam enjoins on believers as laborious. It seemed impractical to expect that I would be able to stop what I was doing during my busy work schedule to take time out and pray.
Working as a news wire journalist, I was often spending upwards of 10 hours a day in the office or at conferences, interviews and meetings, barely able to make time for a lunch break. If I wasn't working, my time was divided between house chores, errands, family and friends, and exercise. I was punctual with everything in my life, except that I was late five times a day.

There are certain times dua (supplication) is more likely to be accepted by Allah (SWT) as mentioned by Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). These times are as follows:
1. The Last Third Of The Night
Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'In the last third of every night our Rabb (Cherisher and Sustainer) (Allah (SWT)) descends to the lowermost heaven and says; "Who is calling Me, so that I may answer him? Who is asking Me so that may I grant him? Who is seeking forgiveness from Me so that I may forgive him?"' [Sahih al-Bukhari]

The Muslim believes that Allah has enjoined upon every sane adult Muslim five prayers each day and night, which he does in a state of purity, standing before his Lord, every day in a state of purity and humility, thanking his Lord for His blessings, asking Him of His bounty, seeking His forgiveness for his sins, asking Him for Paradise and seeking refuge in Him from Hell.

`Abdullah ibn Salam (May Allah be pleased with him) said:
When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived for the first time in Madinah, I went with everyone to see him. When I saw him, I knew his face was not that of a liar. The first words he said were,
“O people, feed the hungry, spread the greeting of peace (as-salam), maintain your kinship relations, and pray at night while others are asleep. With this, you shall enter Heaven in peace.” (Al-Bukhari)

The idea which has influenced most the climate of philosophical and religious thought is that body and soul are mutually antagonistic, and can develop only at each other’s expense. For the soul, the body is a prison and the activities of daily life are the shackles which keep it in bondage and arrest its growth. This has inevitably led to the universe being divided into the spiritual and the secular.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The world rests on four things: the scholarship of the ‘alims, the justice of the rulers, the generosity of the wealthy, and the prayers of the fuqara (people who are conscious of Allah)”.
