By Shah.Hasan / 12 Feb 2013

Such are Deen Mohammad Shaikh’s powers of persuasion that he has converted 108,000 people to Islam since 1989, the year he left his birth religion Hinduism behind.

His multi-coloured business card describes the Matli dweller as the president of the Jamia Masjid Allah Wali and Madrassa Aisha Taleem-ul Quran – an institute for conversions to Islam.

The reedy 70-year-old brandishes an embellished cane. A red-and-white keffeiyah perched on his shoulder offers people a hint to his theological leanings.

Time: A Blessing and a Trust

By Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi / 11 Feb 2013

{It is He who made the sun a shining radiance and the moon a light, determining phases for it so that you might know the number of years and how to calculate time. Allah did not create all these without a true purpose; He explains His signs to those who understand.

In the succession of night and day, and in what Allah created in the heavens and earth, there truly are signs for those who ward off (evil).} (Yunus 10:5-6)

Islam is a religion of peace – peace to humanity and one and all. It is a religion to lead mankind from the depths of darkness and ignorance towards the path of light and knowledge. The literal meaning of Islam, derived from the Arabic word Salaam, means peace. The word “Islam” has another root derivation – Slim – which means surrender or submission. In short, Islam means peace acquired by humans by submitting their will to the Will of Allah.

Tests by Allah سبحانه و تعالى

By Ebrahim Saifuddin / 5 Feb 2013

Allah سبحانهوتعالىhas tested the people of the past in various ways and will keep on testing His creation. He has informed us about these tests in the Quran. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad also informed us that Allah سبحانهوتعالىwill test us from time to time. Sometimes hardships and losses occur in life due to our sins. To wash of these sins in this world, Allah سبحانهوتعالىinflicts upon us these hardships:

Narrated by 'Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her): Allah’s Apostle said, “No calamity befalls a Muslim but that Allah expiates some of his sins because of it, even though it were the prick he receives from a thorn.” (Sahih Bukhari Vol. 7, Book 70, #544)

Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said,"A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection . " (Sahih al-Bukhari)

“Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every muslim”[Sunan Ibn Majah].

We know we have to seek knowledge, but how exactly do we do it? The majority of us just don’t have the time to dedicate ourselves to seeking knowledge (or so it seems).  Therefore, we have compiled a few tips to help you acquire knowledge about our beautiful deen.

Being the best neighbour

By Agencies / 18 Jan 2013

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)is loved by all Muslims. He (peace and blessings be upon him) is well honoured and respected by countless others and considered influential in both religious and secular circles.

The religion of Islam, as taught to us by Prophet Muhammad, urges kind and considerate treatment towards our neighbors. They deserve our respect and good treatment regardless of their religion, race, or colour. In a hadith narrated by `A’ishah, Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Gabriel continued to advise me to treat neighbors well until I thought he would make them my heirs” (Muslim). This clearly indicates that neighbors’s rights are indeed great.

When well-heeled Muslim guests check into the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski in Munich, they know the management and staff will do everything they can to meet their special religious requirements—a marketing trend hoteliers in the West are beginning to emulate as Muslim travel takes off.

“We’ve had long experience with Arab guests, many of which are royalty from the Gulf region, and so we know that providing things like the proper cuisine, prayer carpets and Arabic-speaking staff is important,” said Axel Ludwig, GM of the 300-room property.
