Israel has boycotted a review by the U.N.’s human rights council, the first time any country has done so reported the BBC on Wednesday.
The council decided last year to investigate Jewish settlements in the West Bank, this prompted Israel to announce it would no longer cooperate with the body.

The first United Nations International Day of the Girl Child was observed Thursday with a worldwide call to end child marriage.
The day was designed to recognize the rights of girls around the world and highlight the unique challenges they face.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Tuesday that a new world order needs to emerge, away from years of what he called American bullying and domination.
Ahmadinejad spoke to The Associated Press in a wide-ranging interview on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly — his last as president of Iran. He was to address the assembly Wednesday morning.

Russia and China predictably vetoed the proposed United Nations Security Council resolution authorizing sanctions against the Syrian regime, which was submitted for a vote on July 19th by the United Kingdom.
