Israeli lab produces world’s first animal-free steak
he first meat-free steak grown in a lab has been produced in Israel, but its creators say it needs a bit more development on the taste.
The steak was produced out of several cell types grown on a scaffold by Aleph Farms and has a muscle-like texture similar to conventional meat. However, it will need at least three to five years to go on sale in markets, according to Didier Toubia, co-founder and chief executive of the company.
Turkish early cancer detection microchip claims awards
Two high school students in Turkey, who developed a microchip for early detection of cancer, have claimed yet another award.
Berna Akdeniz and Leyla Al Masoud -- developers of the microchip in western province of Izmir -- decided to study on early diagnosis of cancer in 2016 and after a year the duo developed a microfluidic chip to diagnose lung, breast and prostate cancers early.
Origins of gold discovered in space
In August 2017, an explosion was spotted by scientists in a previously obscure galaxy called NGC 4993. The observation of that cataclysmic explosion has helped to explain the origin of gold on Earth.
According to scientists, the burst of gravitational waves with tiny ripples in the fabric of space was an ultra-powerful collision between two neutron stars. Those collisions are in fact the cosmic forge in which gold and other precious metals are made, before being flung out into the universe.

Two scientists from Asia have been awarded the 2018 OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Awards for Early-Career Women Scientists in the Developing World for their research in the physical sciences.
Launched in 2010 by the Elsevier Foundation, the awardees must have made a demonstrable impact on the research environment both at a regional and international level and have often overcome great challenges to achieve research excellence.
