Iran among top-10 largest silk producer in world

Head of Iran’s Sericulture Center Adil Sarvi said the country is ranked 8th in the world in silk production, putting the annual production volume of silk at 120 tons.
 
According to him, 90% of the world’s silk is produced by Asian countries, with China in the first place with an annual production of 142,000 tons and India in the second place with production of 32,000 tons of silk.
 
 

150 Iranian-Islamic Works to Be Auctioned at Christie’s London

Dozens of Iranian manuscripts and historical object are going to be put up for auction in an exhibition in London later this month.
 
In this exhibition, which is called Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds, nearly 150 Iranian works are going to be auctioned at an initial price of $1,000 to more than $230,000.
 
 

Prevalence of overweight and obesity among girls increasing

The prevalence of overweight in girl students under the age of 20 is increasing form 6.4 percent in 1980 to 10.3 percent in 2015, Mohammad Hashemi, secretary of the society for the prevention of obesity in Iran said here on Sunday.
 
The prevalence of obesity in girls under the age of 20 also shows an increase of 1.7 percent compared with 4.5 percent at the same period of time, IRNA quoted Hashemi as saying.
 
 

Iran Date Exports Grow 27.7% to $102m in 4 Months

Close to 89,220 tons of different kinds of dates worth more than $102 million were exported from Iran to 69 countries during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21-July 22).

 

Iraq to Stop Trading With Iran in US Dollars Due to Sanctions

Iraq will have to stop using the US dollar in its financial transactions with Iran over Washington's sanctions against Tehran, Iraqi government spokesman Saad al-Hadithi told Sputnik on Thursday.

"The sanctions will influence, first of all, money transfers and banking operations in the US dollar. The sides will not use the US dollar," al-Hadithi said, adding that the move would result in a decline in trade between the two countries and thus affect the consumers.

 

Trans-Iranian Railroad in Line for Global Status

The dossier of the trans-Iranian railroad, prepared in late 2017, has been submitted to UNESCO for inscription in the list of World Heritage Sites. The file will be reviewed and revised by the end of the current summer to fix the shortcomings that UNESCO experts will possibly point out, Vahid Aliqardashi, head of infrastructure engineering management at the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Company said.

 

Turkey to host Syria summit with Russia and Iran on April 4

The presidents of Turkey, Russia and Iran will meet for a three-way summit on Syria in Istanbul on April 4, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
 
The meeting will be hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and will be the second such tripartite summit following one in November in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.
 
The summit will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani as the three leaders seek to salvage their efforts to end the conflict.
 

Russia, Iran agree to boycott US dollar in bilateral trade

Russia and Iran have agreed to use their own national currencies in bilateral trade transactions rather than the U.S. dollar.

Iran’s IRNA news agency reported that the plans were announced in a meeting on Tuesday in Tehran by Iranian business magnate and head of the Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce, Asadollah Asgaroladi.

 

IAEA needs €1 million to monitor Iran nuclear deal

Russia and Iran plan to use their national currencies in bilateral trade, Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said on Tuesday.

“Trade will be organized on the basis of our currencies,” he said after the 11th meeting of the Russian-Iranian intergovernmental commission.
