Singapore named the world's most expensive city

Singapore has topped 131 cities globally to become the world's most expensive city to live in 2014, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

The city's strong currency combined with the high cost of running a car and soaring utility bills contributed to Singapore topping the list.


Halal holidays: Singapore firm launches travel site for Muslims

A new website for Muslim travelers which includes a global directory of halal restaurants and dedicated city guides launched Wednesday in a bid to capitalize on the growing number of Islamic tourists.

Specialist Singapore-based firm Crescentrating said the site, which is called, offers a wide range of features for tourists wishing to travel in accordance with the rules of Islam.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has appointed Professor Shih Choon Fong, a Singaporean, to head the King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST). The appointment of a Singaporean academic is a tribute to his country, where the literacy rate is 96 percent, average life expectancy is 82 years, and the unemployment rate at the end of 2011 was just 2 percent, Singapore’s Ambassador to the Kingdom Wong Kwok Pun said in an exclusive interview with Arab News.
