Source : Julian Borger and Mona Mahmood / 20 May 2013

The EU decision to lift Syrian oil sanctions to aid the opposition has accelerated a scramble for control over wells and pipelines in rebel-held areas and helped consolidate the grip of jihadist groups over the country's key resources.

Pakistan: 10,000 dead in 5 years as civilians and soldiers killed increases

By Mohammad Ashraf / 28 Mar 2013

In the past five years in Pakistan more than 10,000 soldiers and civilians have died — including children — due to internal strife in the northern areas of the country, according to government figures released on Tuesday.

The report of Pakistan’s intelligence agencies submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan also stated that the number of deaths had risen to 49,000 since the militant attacks on US soil on September 11, 2001. The number of injured soldiers and civilians has also gone up during the five-year period.

Russian Imams Killed in Dozens

By Ruslan Kurbanov / 9 Jan 2013

The end of 2012 in Russia witnessed the burial of the vice-Mufti of North Ossetia region Ibrahim Dudarov — tenth Imam killed in the country for the year 2012. In recent years, Russia topped the world’s list in the number of dead Imams and Muftis. The reason behind this problem is a prolonged confrontation between the authorities and official clergy on one side and armed Jihadi groups on the other side in the North Caucasus region. In this situation it is difficult to understand who is killing the Imams and for what, and how Muslims should respond to this challenge.

You are all suspects now. What are you going to do about it?

By John Pilger | Informationclearinghouse | 30 Apr 2012

You are all potential terrorists. It matters not that you live in Britain, the United States, Australia or the Middle East. Citizenship is effectively abolished. Turn on your computer and the US Department of Homeland Security’s National Operations Center may monitor whether you are typing not merely “al-Qaeda”, but “exercise”, “drill”, “wave”, “initiative” and “organisation”: all proscribed words. The British government’s announcement that it intends to spy on every email and phone call is old hat. The satellite vacuum cleaner known as Echelon has been doing this for years. What has changed is that a state of permanent war has been launched by the United States and a police state is consuming western democracy.

Finding the Wisdom We Need to Survive

By Robert C. Koehler | Iviews | 31 Mar 2012

I'm far more interested in forgiveness than justice.

I say this just to calm myself down after a morning of media overkill, so to speak. There are so many murdered mothers and children in the news, some with names and faces, so many just adding anonymously to one death toll or another.

The ex-FBI informant with a change of heart: 'There is no real hunt. It's fixed'

By Paul Harris | | 20 Mar 2012

Craig Monteilh says he did not balk when his FBI handlers gave him the OK to have sex with the Muslim women his undercover operation was targeting. Nor, at the time, did he shy away from recording their pillow talk.
