Gun injuries send 8,000 American children to the ER every year – study

It’s not only school shootings but also accidents, other assaults and even suicide attempts with firearms that send almost 8,000 American children every year to the emergency room, according to a new study.
Guns were the reason some 75,000 children visited the ER between 2006 and 2014, according to the study, carried out by the John Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland.

Most Americans want the United States to do less overseas, with the question of the country's global role divisive across the political spectrum, a survey said Thursday. Six in ten said the United States should focus more on home and less overseas, according to a wide-ranging study of US political views by the Pew Research Center. That figure was the same as in the last survey in 2011 but was up from 49 percent in 2005, in the midst of the Afghan and Iraq wars.

 

More Americans say Afghanistan war was a mistake

Almost half of the US population believes that the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan was a mistake, a new Gallup poll shows.

The poll found that 49 percent of Americans think the invasion should not have happened while 48 percent believe the opposite.

Fifty-two percent say the US has "mostly failed" to achieve its goals in Afghanistan while 38 percent say it has "mostly succeeded," the USA Today and Pew Research poll showed.

A recent research estimates over 10,000 under-18s were shot in the US in 2009 - at least one third died. While infants are mostly injured due to firearms mishaps, teenagers are most often victims of criminal armed assaults.

A study by John Leventhal MD and his team from the Yale School of Medicine, published in the journal Pediatrics, utilizes statistics from the Kids’ Inpatient Database (KID), on children hospitalized in the US with gunshots in 2009, the latest statistics available.

US citizens gave a strict verdict on the 113th Congress as its first year is to close soon. A vast majority of Americans say it has been the worst in their lifetime, according to a new CNN/ORC International poll released Thursday.

Two-thirds of Americans say Congress is the least productive in recent history, with 73 percent saying lawmakers have done nothing to address the nation’s problems, the poll revealed.
