Holy Quran and Modern Science

Source : Quranreading.com / 1 Mar 2013

We are living in the age of computers, laser surgeries, advanced medical treatments, and cloning! In today’s world of constant scientifically groundbreaking discoveries, how can we accept that Allah’s revelation, The Quran, did not reveal this all before? Believing the entire world to be created by God Himself, the Qur’an revealed 1400 years ago contains 1000 verses of scientific knowledge, and none of them contradicting with today’s scientific facts and discoveries.

The Sanctity and value of life

By Sami Zaatari / 1 Feb 2013

“Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.”(5:32)

Sympathy and self sacrifice

Source : Inter-Islam.org / 1 Mar 2013

The Sahaba, as a class of people, attained such high qualities that today’s weak society find it difficult to emulate them completely. We would be fortunate if we really attain even a partial resemblance to their character.

Some of the qualities are distinctly their mark. Sympathy and self sacrifice is one of them.

A Sahabi came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and complained of hunger and distress. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) didn’t have any food. He then asked the sahabas that who will take this sahabi as their guest on behalf of me.

Peaceful Nights

By Naiyerah Kolkailah / 27 Feb 2013

'O Allah, I submit my soul to You, and I entrust my affair to You, and I turn my face towards You, and I totally rely on You, in hope and fear of You.’

Allah, the Exalted, says: "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and day are signs for those of understanding-who remember Allah while standing, sitting and [lying] on their sides" (Qur'an, 3:190-191).

Five Steps for effective Da'wah

By Khadija Haffajee / 26 Feb 2013

I. Ways Relating to People

A. Be attentive and show concern. When shaking hands. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) never released his hand first, and never turned his face away from others until they did.

1.    Be consistently considerate

2.    Inquire about the absent

3.    Visit the sick

Golden Rule in Islam

By Abu Amina Elias / 26 Feb 2013

The golden rule, or the ethics of reciprocity, is an Islamic moral principle which calls upon people to treat others the way they would like to be treated. According to the Oxford Dictionary of Philosophy, the golden rule is defined as:

Any form of the dictum: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. In some form this is found in almost all religions and ethical systems. [Blackburn, Simon. "Golden Rule."]

How to Be a VIP on the Day of Judgment

By Muzammil H. Siddiq / 26 Feb 2013

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,

"Allah will cover seven people with special shade, on the Day when there will be no shade: a just ruler, a youth who has grown up in the worship of Allah, a man whose heart is attached to the mosques, two persons who love each other only for Allah’s sake and they meet and part in Allah’s cause only, a man who refuses the call of a beautiful and influential woman for illicit relation with her and says: I am afraid of Allah, a man who gives charitable gifts so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given, and a person who remembers Allah while he is alone and his eyes are flooded with tears." (Al-Bukhari)

How to read the Qur'an

Source : Arab news / 26 Feb 2013

Muslims believe that the Qur'an is Allah's words that were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) through Angel Gabriel (peace be upon him).

The Qur'an is the word of the Ever-Living Allah. It has been sent down to guide humans for all times to come. No book can be like it. As you come to the Qur'an, Allah speaks to you. To read the Qur'an is to hear Him, to converse with Him, and to walk in His ways. It is the encounter of life with the Life-giver.

What is the Status of One Who Considers Homosexuality to be Permissible?

By Mufti Muhammad Zubair Butt / 25 Feb 2013

Question:

If a person practices homosexuality, and believes that this is acceptable [and not forbidden], does this person still remain a Muslim? The person says that the verses in the Qur’an are all related to lust and fashion rather than sincere love between 2 individuals.

Too busy to Pray Five Times?

By Daliah Merzaban / 25 Feb 2013

Before I genuinely began to cultivate and nurture my relationship with God, I regarded the five daily prayers that Islam enjoins on believers as laborious. It seemed impractical to expect that I would be able to stop what I was doing during my busy work schedule to take time out and pray.

Working as a news wire journalist, I was often spending upwards of 10 hours a day in the office or at conferences, interviews and meetings, barely able to make time for a lunch break. If I wasn't working, my time was divided between house chores, errands, family and friends, and exercise. I was punctual with everything in my life, except that I was late five times a day.
