Study reiterates need for increased support for female converts in UK

The University of Cambridge has published a report about experiences of almost 50 British women of all backgrounds, ethnicities, ages and faiths (or no faith), who have all converted to Islam.

The report was commissioned and produced by the University's Centre of Islamic Studies (CIS), in association with the New Muslims Project, Markfield.

Lawyer wears headscarf in court for first time

A female lawyer has for the first time entered a Turkish court wearing a headscarf, following the revoking of a regulation banning the headscarf in judicial institutions by the Council of State.

Attorney Şule Dağlı Gökkılıç wore her headscarf during a hearing in a libel suit in the Istanbul district of Kadıköy’s criminal court. As the new regulation had yet to be officially put into force, the judge noted in the court’s records that Gökkılıç was wearing her headscarf on duty.

 

Libyan women should be banned from marrying foreigners: Grand Mufti

Libya’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Sadeq al-Ghariani, has called on the government to ban Libyan women from marrying foreigners, Egypt’s state news agency MENA reported Wednesday.

He states that no Libyan women should be permitted to enter into marriage with a foreign man even if they are Muslims or Arabs.

 

Paradise is for Believing Men and Women

We often hear speakers in Friday prayer or in admonitions talking about Paradise and all of us find our hearts, minds and thoughts tuned on to that 'frequency'. However, majority of the speakers talk about Paradise as if it were a house for men only. Reality is not like that. Paradise is for the believing men and women. The only price for it is sound belief in Allah, love of Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and obedience to Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).

 

Michigan Growing Muslim Girl Scouts

A growing number of young Muslim girls are joining Girl Scout troops in southeast Michigan, forming new friendships based on faith and aspiring for taking new leadership roles when they get older.

“We want them to be strong and take on leadership roles in the future,” Rana Alaouie, who’s a volunteer and has two daughters in the group, told Arab American News on Thursday, March 21.

She was related to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) it by his marriage to her sister 'A'ishah, her father, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, was the close Companion and trusted friend of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
