It is permissible for a woman to be an authority and leader in a position for which she is qualified, although some positions are specific only to men such as the position of prayer leader and supreme commander of the armed forces.

A British judge ruled on Monday that a Muslim woman will be allowed to go on trial wearing a full-face veil, or niqab, but must take it off while giving evidence.

Unemployment among Saudi women in the private sector increased by 2.3 percent in 2012, according to new statistics release by the Ministry of Labor.
In 2011, there were around 302,000 unemployed Saudi women, while the figure grew to 358,000 in 2012, marking a notable increase, sources told a local daily.

How is the ‘iddah period calculated for a woman who does not menstruate (due to menopause or due to a health condition)? I know that normally a woman’s idda period is 3 periods of purity between menstrual cycles.

Egyptian authorities on Sunday banned Yemeni rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Tawakkol Karman from entering the country for “security reasons,” airport officials said.
Karman was held at Cairo airport on arrival and ordered to return on the flight back to Yemen, the officials said without providing further details. The first Arab woman to win the Nobel peace prize has voiced support for loyalists of deposed Islamist president Mohamed Morsi and described his ouster by the military in July as undemocratic.
