Four years ago the president of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Yevkurov and the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims decided to build a major Islamic complex in Magas, and the main facility had to be the Jami mosque. The Azan Fund, a non-commercial organization, was established to collect money for the construction.

Akhmet Palankoyev, the chairman of the Azan Fund, member of the Federation Council from Ingushetia, told Vestnik Kavkaza about the work.

According to him, “the complex is going to be a major religious, cultural, and educational center of not only Ingushetia, but the whole Russian Federation. It will include the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims, an Islamic university, a dormitory, and an entertainment complex. The mosque for 8000 worshipers will be the biggest in Europe.

The grand architectural project covers 20 hectares. Building of the religious canter is provided for organizations and people’s donations. And its appearance depends directly on the unity of Muslims. Today the first stage of construction is over. Speaking about engineering, the mosque’s foundation and the technical floor are completed, and now we are ready to build walls.”

According to Palankoyev, “the Ingush like any Muslim nation want to have a Jami mosque in the republic which will be a pride of the region and a symbol of the religious belonging and uniqueness of the nation.”

Architects will plan to make the mosque a unique masterpiece which will emphasize the indissoluble connection between the Ingush people and family tower complexes. “The religious center will become not only a pattern of Islamic architecture, but a symbol of the improvement of the spiritual foundations of the republic. The mosques which were built by our ancestors have stayed in our memories. The desire to build a new symbol of Ingushetia is great,” Palankoyev says. “I am glad that the hopes of thousands of people are coming true.”
