Ethiopian Cabbage Dish

Our dish for today comes from Ethiopia. Ethiopian kitchen is famous with its tasty cuisines.

This dish can be a good choice for a vegetarian. As for people who love meat and poultry, they can add their favorite kind of meat to give it more nutrition value.

Beef or chicken hotdogs are a suitable ingredient to add rather than other kinds of meat.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup olive oil

4 carrots, thinly sliced

1 onion, thinly sliced

1 teaspoon sea salt

1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1/2 head cabbage, shredded

5 potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes

Directions:

  1. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Cook the carrots and onion in the hot oil about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the salt, pepper, cumin, turmeric, and cabbage and cook another 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Add the potatoes; cover. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook until potatoes are soft, 20 to 30 minutes.
  5. If you want to add hotdogs, cut them in slices, cook them with 2 tablespoons of oil for 2 minutes, and then add them to the dish in the last 10 minutes of cooking.
