Designer from Kazan wins this year’s Islamic Clothes Grand Prix

The first Muslim clothes festival took place in 2006

The Kazan-born designer Aisylu Kalimullina won the Grand Prix of Islamic Clothes international Muslim clothes festival. She was voted the Best Designer of 2014. She received gold earrings with diamonds as a gift from the organisers.

Winners in other nominations, including Best Business Suit, Contemporary Urban Clothes, Best Wedding Dress, Best Youth Collection, and others were identified on Thursday as well.

The organisers said earlier that over 70 entries from designers of various studios and schools had been sent in for competition. Foreign participants arrived from Turkey, whilst Russian designers represented Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Chechnya, Yekaterinburg, Pervourlask, Moscow, Kurgan and other regions.

Tatarstan Muslim Spiritual Board, TAIF, Union of Russian Muslim Women and Russian Union of Muslim Designers with the support of Islamic Foundation for Culture, Science and Education organized the event.

The participants had a chance to demonstrate their artistic talent to prominent fashion specialists and experienced university professors, and meet with leading textile and garment industry specialists. As in previous years, the main criterion for the entries was them complying with Islamic canons.

The first Muslim clothes festival took place in 2006, international Muslim clothes design, competitions, shows and conferences being held annually since.

Apart from a show of foreign and domestic made designer clothes, this year’s event included a Best Designer of the Year 2014 competition and a conference themed Muslim and National Clothes in Contemporary Fashion Industry.
