Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov spoke over the phone on Friday, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.

“The ministers discussed a number of issues of bilateral relations in the context of the forthcoming Russian-Turkish negotiations at the highest level,” the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to arrive for oficial visit in Turkey early April.

"The seventh meeting of the Russian-Turkish Cooperation Council will be held in Ankara on April 3. Under the chairmanship of Putin and Erdogan, the bilateral relations, regional and international problems will be thoroughly considered during the visit," the press service of Turkish leader Tayyip Erdogan reported.

A trilateral summit of leaders from Turkey, Russia and Iran on Syria is also expected to be held next week in Istanbul.
