Kazan, July 15, 2020

The President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, visited the reconstruction of a number of significant objects in the historical center of Kazan on Thursday, July 15. The president came to see the historic Azimov Mosque together with the mufti of Tatarstan Kamil khazrat Samigullin.

The reconstruction of Azimov Mosque was carried out for five years. It was built in the forms of eclecticism of the national-romantic trend of 1887-1890. The mosque is one-story, two-hall building with a 51 m high minaret. The mosque is decorated in the motifs of the architecture of the Muslim East.

There is a 2-storey building of madrasa and a wooden house for the imam on the territory of the mosque as well. The mosque can simultaneously accommodate up to 600 people. But today, due to the coronavirus pandemic, collective prayers are performed with respect to social distance only in one hall of the mosque.

Rustam Minnikhanov commended the work in the mosque and thanked the restorers. The president was shown the large prayer hall, the interior and decoration of the interior, the press office of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan reports.
