Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Justice has revealed plans to introduce an obligatory marriage training and rehabilitation program aimed at reducing soaring divorce rates in the kingdom, al Arabiya reports.

"No one can deny the importance of training for married life, and its impact on reducing the rates of divorce cases," Fouad al-Jugaiman, coordinator for the pre-marriage rehabilitation program told London-based Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.

During the course of the program, 1,000 qualified trainers will teach soon-to-be-wed men and women skills needed for married life to ensure the stability of their future family, he explained.

Similar programs have already proved efficient. For instance, divorce rates in Malaysia declined from 32 percent to only seven percent.

Saudi Arabia has one of the highest divorce rates, with an average 66 divorce cases a day in 2011. The main causes for separation include educational gap, differences in habits and poor understanding of marital duties. Among other factors negligence, disregard of either spouse, violence, and disputes can be named.
