Russian Muslims restored school in Syria

Damascus, September 23, 2019

Today the head of the Muslims of Tatarstan Kamil Khazrat Samigullin arrived to Syria. Here the mufti will visit the opening of a secondary school in the Barz district of Damascus, restored thanks to the help of the Muslim Religious Administration of the Republic of Tatarstan and other religious organizations of Russia. The building was demolished in a result of military operations, the press service of the Tatarstan Muftiate reports.

“Kamil Khazrat Samigullin visited Syrian Republic as part of the Inter-Religious Working Group to Assist the Syrian Population of the Council for Interaction with Religious Associations under the President of the Russian Federation,” the statement said.

The Russian delegation was received by the Minister of Awqaf Abdusattar Seyid, who thanked the guests for the support and assistance in the school restoration campaign. In his turn Kamil Hazrat Samigullin expressed his readiness to support the Muslim religious organizations of Syria, and invited the Syrian Minister to visit Kazan and suggested holding a joint scientific and theological conference.

The five-storied school for a thousand pupils is the first object in the framework of the project to restore the social infrastructure of Syria which suffered from military actions.

The religious communities of Russia both Christians and Muslims have organized fundraising for humanitarian assistance since December last year. It should be noted that the significant contribution to the initiative was made by the Muslim Religious Administration of the Republic of Tatarstan.
