Russian Islamophob escaped punishment

A man was sentenced to 1 month and 18 days of community service.

Yesterday Soviet District Court of Kazan passed sentence on a criminal case against the co-ordinator of the Kazan public movement "Russian alliance" Mikhail Sharov. He was found guilty of committing an offense according to part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of Russia (incitement of hatred or hostility, and humiliation of human dignity), Kommersant newspaper reports.

"The investigation and the court found that in February 2012, 29-year-old resident of Kazan, posted on his account of the social network, the photo of the Holy Qur'an, which insults the feelings of believers. Also, this post contributes to an atmosphere of ethnic or religious intolerance, stimulates the national and religious hatred, "- said in a statement of Tatarstani investigative department.

According to investigators, on the photo was pictured the Sacred Book, on which were a piece of meat, suet and excrements, and was signed "Happy holiday." Furthermore, according to the investigation, on December 22, 2012, Mr. Sharov posted video clip "skin-gerli’" containing derogatory characteristics, negative words about other nationalities.

Against Sharov was prosecuted. However, the court found that the episode with the image of the Koran is not proven, and Mikhail Sharov is not involved in its placement in the social network. The defendant, calling himself a believer and loyal to all faiths, said that he did not put the image in his network page. According to Sharov, on February 2012, his account was hacked and anyone could to post this photo. Questioned during the trial one of the IT-specialists confirmed that this could well happen.                    

As a result, the court found that the defendant was involved only in the second episode - the posting of the video clip "skin-gerli’." A man was sentenced to 1 month and 18 days of community service.
