The problems of Islamic education discussed in Kazan

Kazan, August 27, 2019

The main task of Russian Muslims is to create a unified educational space, thus we have to create a unified standard for all the regions of the country, said Rafik Mukhametshin, rector of the Russian Islamic Institute.

“We have successfully implemented the new standard in Tatarstan. Now the Council for Islamic Education of the Russian Federation faces the task of standardizing the entire Muslim educational system in Russia. The universal implementation of the new standard will create a unified Muslim educational space and improve its quality”, the official website of the Muslim Religious Administration of the Republic of Tatarstan quotes Rafik Mukhametshin.

Muslim Religious Administration of Tatarstan notes that president of the republic Rustam Minnikhanov discussed this issue with Islamic religious figures in the city of Bolgar in May this year.

Moreover the rector announced the creation of a special body for public accreditation of Islamic educational institutions. It is planned that this authority “will monitor madrasahs and universities for compliance with the above standards”.

The Council for Islamic Education of the Russian Federation plans to cooperate with foreign Islamic universities. Rafik Mukhametshin told reporters about the negotiations with the famous and oldest university in the Islamic world, Al-Azhar. The parties are considering recognizing the bachelor's degree of Russian Muslim universities by the Egyptian university. If these negotiations will end successfully Russian graduates will have the opportunity through the Council for Islamic Education of the Russian Federation enter the magistracy at Al-Azhar, bypassing the undergraduate course of this university. According to  Mukhametshin to achieve this task Russian Islamic universities have to implement and follow the new standards of Islamic professional education.
