Pyatigorsk, October 18, 2019

In Pyatigorsk, Mufti of Dagestan, Sheikh Ahmad Afandi took part in a meeting of the plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus Federal District Alexander Matovnikov with elders and spiritual leaders, where they discussed the problems of drug and alcohol prevention in the region.

The topic of discussion was the prevention of drug addiction and alcoholism among young people.

Although the terms “teenage drug addiction” and “child alcoholism” sound unrealistic, but this problem could become a dangerous threat to the national security and future of the country.
According to experts about 5 million of Russian citizens are drug addicted, and at the same time, addiction is getting younger.

Among the questions raised were: How to use authority, experience and influence of elders in order to turn the tide? How to make a healthy lifestyle the norm for young people? How to ensure that the guiding principles for young men and women will be true and not illusory, false values?

Members of the Public Chamber of Russia, and heads of the Sober Russia federal project, as well as leaders of religious denominations, chairmen of regional councils of elders shared their experiences and specific proposals for joining forces in confronting the threats posed by drug addiction and alcoholism.
