No restrictions on visiting mosques due to coronavirus in Moscow

Moscow, March 3, 2020

The Moscow Muslim community does not plan to impose restrictions on visiting mosques or holding services because of the coronavirus, told the Moscow News Agency Ildar Alyautdinov, mufti of Moscow, the chief imam of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque.

“So, for now we are not planning to introduce any restrictions. At the same time, of course, we always urge the believers to observe hygiene measures: use masks if necessary, wash their hands, and perform all the necessary recommendations. In any case we are not talking about banning visits of mosques or worship services”, he said.

It was reported by media earlier that Tehran planned to cancel Friday prayers, as well as to restrict access to sacred places for Muslims in order to prevent the spread of the 2019-nCoV coronavirus.

On Monday, March 2, Muslim Religious Administration of Kazakhstan urged compatriots not to visit public places, including mosques, at the first symptoms of SARS.
