Muslims athletes are to compete for a trip to Hajj

Kazan, January 5, 2020

Kazan is to hold the IV All-Russian Marjani Cup competition in jiu-jitsu among men and women on February 29. This year the tournament is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. The organizers of the competition are Muslim Religious Administration of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Competitions will take place at Ak Bars Martial Arts Palace. According to the organizers the winner of the tournament is to receive a ticket to Hajj in 2020. Such an opportunity for the winner of a sporting event will be provided by Muslim Religious Administration of Tatarstan and the official Haj operator in Tatarstan “DUM RT Hajj”.

The prominent Russian athletes are expected to compete in the tournament in 12 weight categories: among men - 56 kg, 62 kg, 69 kg, 77 kg, 85 kg, 94 kg and 94+ kg, among women - 49 kg, 55 kg, 62 kg, 70 kg, 70+ kg

It is noteworthy that Russia is among the leaders in the level of development of jiu-jitsu in the world. The tournament is held to form a list of candidates for sports teams of the Russian Federation to participate in international sports competitions on behalf of the country. In addition, according to the results of the competitions, the athletes who will take first places are to receive the sports title “Master of Sports of Russia”.

The competition is named after Shigabutdin Mardzhani, the great Tatar theologian, also known for his outstanding fighting achievements, reports the press office of Tatarstan Muftiyat.
