Large-scale Iftar for women held in Tatarstan

Kazan Tennis Academy hosted the second "female" day of the annual VI Republican Iftar in Tatarstan.

For the first time it was organized by the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Association of Muslim Entrepreneurs of the Russian Federation and the Kazan Arena Joint Stock Company. It was decided to divide this year into male and female iftars "under the roof" in a sheltered venue.

The reasons for such decisions were explained to journalists today by Radik Abdrakhmanov, First Vice-President of the Association of Muslims Entrepreneurs of the Russian Federation: "We have not held such a scale of women's events in Russia, and perhaps even in the world, and we are planning to expand this Iftar even more in the future. Previous years when the iftars were held together, we could not predict the number of participants from among women and men. This created certain difficulties, since the sites for prayer and iftar should be separate and sufficient. Moreover, the technical aspects of the Kazan Tennis Academy severely limited us in the number of people. Other reasons for the separation of iftar for two days were the weather risks: in order to receive so many guests "to the table," we would have to perform prayers in the open, but more importantly: it is much more interesting for women to be on Iftar with a special program, they feel freer, more comfortable, have the opportunity to communicate with each other. We wanted to make a holiday for Muslim women!"

Women from all over the Republic of Tatarstan took part in the Iftar: public figures, representatives of Muslim women's organizations, as well as mothers with many children and mothers of children with disabilities in need.

Leyla Fazleyeva, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, also attended the mass Iftar. A significant number of Iftar's guests are Muslim women from the regions of the republic. Delegations from the regions began arriving at a sports facility in Kazan by specially organized transport by 6 pm. Arriving guests were pleased with live performances of Nashid and munajats.

Some 325 volunteers were involved in receiving the Iftar guests, organization of collective prayers, serving meals and subsequent clean up.

With the onset of the time of iftar, the participants performed collective prayer-namaz led by the Mufti Kamil Hazrat Samigullin and then proceeded to meals.
