Deputy of the "Ar-Nami’s" political faction Tursunbay Bakiir ulu proposed to change the start of two-day weekend from Sunday to Friday. The draft has been introduced today at the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Policy.

He said that the initiative is based on the fact that Friday Juma prayer falls on the afternoon.

"85% of our citizens are Muslims. In most cases, muslims have difficulties to attend Friday prayers because of work. Therefore, I propose to shift the day off from Sunday to Friday. In many developed countries, Friday is considered as a day off,"-he said.

The deputy noted that these amendments of the Labour Code will not infringe upon anyone's interests. "We only want to uphold the rights of Muslim believers," – the deputy said.
