Clergy is urged to enhance work on early marriage prevention, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said.

"It is unacceptable that girls, who are children themselves, become young mothers, who do not know how to cook and care for own child. Everyone - clergy, television, radio - should be engaged in preventing early marriages. It is necessary to tell and show people that school-age marriages have negative impact on children," the press office for the Chechen leader and government quoted Kadyrov as saying at a meeting with Chechen Mufti Salakh Mezhiyev.

At the same time, thanks to intensive work of clergy abduction of brides has been eliminated, Kadyrov said.

"Up until recently the cases of abducting brides in order to marry them were large scale. Thanks to timely measures, which clergy took, now this practice has been eliminated. We have also eliminated almost completely early marriages. And clergy should keep this issue under constant control. We should teach young people to guard family values," Kadyrov said.
