A historical meeting between the mufti and the rabbi took place in Khabarovsk

Khabarovsk, December 6, 2019

A historic meeting between the Mufti of the Far East of Russia, Ahmad Hazrat Garifullin and the Chief Rabbi of the Khabarovsk Krai Yakov Snetkov, took place in the Khabarovsk Synagogue on December 6.

The mufti presented a small gift brought from Ufa to the Rabbi. Religious figures discussed questions on the structure of religious organizations of each other, shared their experience of management and established work in various fields. For example, they considered the issue on production of kosher food, which the Jewish community has to transport from Moscow due to the high labor costs of production. In turn, the Muslim leader shared that the followers of Islam in Khabarovsk are able to independently provide themselves with halal food, in particular meat. However, Ahmad Hazrat stressed that the community has problems in this sphere, recalling some unscrupulous semi-finished producers who used the Halal label without observing the relevant Sharia standards.

The parties spoke on the Interfaith Forum held in Birobidzhan, in which both spiritual leaders took part. Ahmad Hazrat said that the forum was an inspiration for interfaith friendship, and now the imams and Hazrats who took part in it continue to maintain good neighborly relations with representatives of the Jewish community and Orthodoxy in their regions.

The Chief Rabbi of the Khabarovsk Krai announced the approach of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah and spoke about its background as well.
