Activities of religious organizations during a pandemic

Makhachkala, July 22, 2020

Mufti of Dagestan Sheikh Ahmad Afandi took part in a video-conference of the Supreme Religious Council of the Peoples of the Caucasus dedicated to the “Activities of religious organizations during a pandemic”.

Among the speakers were leaders of the Muslims spiritual administrations of the North Caucasus, as well as representatives of other confessions.

The meeting was opened and chaired by the Head of the Spiritual Directorate of Caucasus Muslims Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pasha-Zade.

Sheikh Ahmad Afandi in his speech greeted the participants of the meeting, and expressed gratitude to the organizers of the event.

Each speaker noted the importance of the clergy's work during pandemic. The participants of the meeting talked about the challenges of organizing the work of the Muftiyat, mosques and madrasahs, as well as experienced peculiarities in the month of Ramadan, including the holiday of Eid al-Fitr.

Since the beginning of the regime of movement restrictions, the number of sick and those in need has increased in the republic. Knowing that neighboring republics are facing the same problem, the Muftiyat of Dagestan considered it as its duty to provide them with all possible humanitarian assistance. The muftis of neighboring regions expressed heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the support provided at a difficult time for the entire ummah.

It is noteworthy that all religious leaders unanimously noted: “Our ummah in the difficult period for all did not stay apart and was united as one body, extending hands to each other and cooperating in virtuous deeds.”
