30 thousand people gathered for Iftar in Derbent

Last night the Muslim administration of Dagestan Republic held a collective iftar meals in one of the most ancient cities in the world – Derbent. The event was timed to the sacred night of Lailat ul-Qadr which is honored by the muslims all over the world.

Derbent is known as Bab ul-Abwab (in Arabic “The gates of the gates”) for it was the first place from where the religion of Islam has spread on the modern territory of Russia and Central Asia.

The event was held at the city stadium "Naryn-Kala" in Derbent. It gathered more than 30 thousand people from all over the Dagestan and neighboring Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Republican iftar was attended by the representatives of the government of the republic, municipal authorities, the prominent religious figures and Olympic champions, such as Abdulrashid Sadulayev, Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov etc.

It should be reminded that a similar event was held last year at one of the stadiums in Makhachkala, and it also gathered about 30 thousand participants.
