Philippine Congress moves a step closer to expanding Islamic banking

The Philippines has moved a step closer to opening the country to the wide range of banking and other financial services available through Islamic banking and finance.
The move comes after the House of Representatives recently approved on second reading a proposed bill providing for the regulation and organization of Islamic banks in the Philippines.

The fight of Mindanao Muslims against Ferdinand Magellan started in 1521 and continued, first against Spaniards, then against Americans, and since 1946 they have been fighting the Filipino government.

The Muslims did not want to be a part of the Philippine state but their efforts led nowhere. The Moro National Liberation Front was created in 1969 and the Muslims started armed fight for an independent Mindanao.
