What is a Family

- A group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one head or household.

- The basic unit of society traditionally consisting of two parents raising their children.

First Things to Know

One of the most useful advice, in the opinion of this author, is that a new Muslim should take Islam one piece at a time. It is a total way of life that needs time to adjust. It can take years to leave many non-Islamic behaviors, but sticking to Islam brings happiness in this life and in the one to come. Therefore, allow yourself time to grow as a Muslim and practice what you learn.

Ishaq ibn Ibrahim and Muhammad ibn Rafi‘narrated to us – and the wording is Ibn Rafi‘’s – Ishaq said: ‘Abd al-Razzaq reported to us, and Ibn Rafi‘said: narrated to us: Ma‘mar reported to us: from Ibn Tawus from his father from Ibn ‘Abbas, he said:

“Divorce, a divorce with three [issuances], in the time of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) and Abu Bakr and two years of the caliphate of ‘Umar was [counted as] one. Then ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab said: ‘Verily, the people have hastened in a matter in which they used to have patience, so if only we were to enforce it on them.’ So he enforced it on them.” (Sahih Muslim)

JEDDAH: Many youngsters in the Kingdom have told Arab News that men who are unfit to be a good parent should refrain from having children in the first place. They said weak parenting is the main cause of depression and substance abuse for children.
